Flush-Strated; Our Tips for Beating the Heat

Our vest and pants are life savers in the warm weather but there’s other tips and tricks that can help keep you cool when the weather is hot. If you feel like permanently glueing yourself to the fridge or frequently imagine immersing yourself in the nearest fountain fully clothed, some of the below are a little less extreme and may just help you out:

Dress Smart

No, not smart as in black tie. We mean opt for smart fabrics and light layers. Avoid heavy, non-breathable fabrics and thick layers that make it difficult for sweat to evaporate from your body.

Our grapefruit vest is a bright pop of colour that can be worn alone or under items. Featuring our patented moisture wicking technology, it’s a stylish and practical way of keeping cool that doesn't look out of place on a beach or in a bar.

Fans

Paper, electric, portable or attached to the mains, a fan can be a lifesaver when a flush comes calling. Paper fans not only look cute but are super portable, as are mini electric fans although these can be noisy.

Face Mists

Buy a face mist and suddenly you’re everyone’s best friend when summer comes calling. Some have cooling properties built in whilst others are offer a healthy dose of hydration and can help you to feel refreshed if a bout of sweating arises. Whilst it can seem tempting to just rely on the handy old H2O, it’s worth investing in products that have skin care benefits imbued as well.

We also love making our own home made spritzes with general things you find about the house. There’s lots of amazing recipes online but a particular favourite is a chamomile and vanilla mist which is gentle and soothing to the skin.

Simply soak a chamomile tea bag in water for an hour then pour into a spritz bottle so it’s about two thirds to three quarter full, add a couple of drops of vanilla essential oil and jojoba oil and then top up the rest with water (distilled is better). Give it a shake and voila! You’re ready to go!

Water

Summer is a sweaty time anyway for the most part, so it’s important to keep your water intake topped up. Not only will this help with flushes, but your skin will thank you for it. Buying a refillable bottle (preferably with a section for you to put ice in) is not only much better for the environment than buying a new bottle each time, but will help keep your water cool on hot days. If you can't stomach the thought of water by itself, adding some fruit (we like to switch it up by using strawberries, cucumber and lemons alternately) gives a hint of flavour and has lots of good benefits added to boot!

Keep it Cotton

Switch bed sheets to cotton, which is a light and breathable fabric, and avoid synthetic materials like the plague (no matter how amazing they might look). Night sweats are the worst but a simple switch of your bedding can help to keep you cooler.

Destress

We’re all guilty of getting caught up with life and stressing over things, but with numerous studies published showing how detrimental it can be to health, it’s worth setting aside some time to destress. Sometimes it’s unavoidable we know, but if there’s a time to chill out it’s summer. Grab a book, go for a walk, grab an ice cream or start a new hobby; take some time for you and try to forget about the hustle and bustle of life for a few minutes.

Frozen Flannels and Ice Packs

These little beauties are a handy little weapon that can be kept in your arsenal for when a flush hits at home. Simply dampen a flannel and put it in the freezer for an hour or two, or use an ice pack. When a flush hits, apply to the back of your neck or the wrists for an instant cooling effect.
